• 5.0 out of 5 stars from shameless reader -- taking back a negative review, because ... : ... when I wrote my original review of this book, it was because I hated the ending & the teaser for book 3 so much: I thought Tean, lovely Tean, was going to -- well, no spoilers, but I was more than dismayed by what the author seemed to think was a good outcome of the complications between him, Ammon, and Jem. In this series we follow Tean Leon, Wildlife veterinarian and Jem Berger, a con man, as they investigate another crime that lands at their doorstep. Team and Jem are two very easy to love, smart, witty, loving, complex characters who shine with their intellect and personalities. Mr Ashe has done a great job in writing these two amazing people in a manner in which we get to see and feel connections, life choices, life styles that makes them incredibly relatable and yet completely alien. I was not sure when I started The Lion and Lamb series where the 2 main characters were headed. By the second book I was riveted by the plot, the characters, and especially the dialogue. The emotions brought on by this book include, laughing out loud, tearing up, and based on the readers own experience a spiritual satisfaction. Looking forward to the next story in the series! I usually don't like anti-heroes but Jem is so incredible and I am totally in love with him. Tean is a bit frustrating and I'm not sure if this series is actually going to have a romantic hea for Jem and Tean. Ammon once again comes into play. A very tightly written, interesting plot. Tean and Jem are such a complex couple or at least I hope they are a couple. I love their interactions and their devotion to each other. They are also such a great investigative team. Gregory gets us inside people’s heads in a way that isn’t always comfortable, but is always worthwhile. The settings, and the ways that Jem and Tean react to them would be enough on their own to make the book worthwhile. The relationships between the main characters ditto.
